The Department of Psychology was established in the University of Nigeria in 1964 under the guidance of Professor Carl Frost of Michigan University, United States of America. It is the first degree-awarding Department of Psychology established in Nigeria and produced its first set of graduates in 1967. The first Head of Department was Mr. J. Anowi, who has been succeeded by others, including the current Head of Department, Dr. Chris N. Uzondu. The Department is staffed with highly endowed academic staff and has produced a lot of graduates who are making outstanding impact in the development of the Nigerian society and elsewhere.
